Storing Incompatible Chemicals Together – Yet Separately

Flammables should be stored in a separate cabinet designed specifically to meet OSHA and NFPA requirements. They should be kept away from other chemicals to avoid the danger of explosion or fire. Some corrosives are incompatible with each other and should be stored separately. Acids and bases can both be corrosives but they sometimes react violently when together. They should be stored separately from each other, too. Recognizing the different properties and characteristics of these various chemicals will help you work more safely with them. Here are two cabinets which allow you to store incompatible chemicals together – yet separately.

Eagle 44 Gallon Manual Close Cabinet

There are several models of storage cabinets for acids and corrosives which allow for separate storage of sulfuric acid and other substances that should not be in contact.
  • Has independent upper and lower compartments, which allows for the separation of reactive chemicals.
  • It is made of 100% polyethylene, which is resistant to harmful acid vapors and spills, including sulfuric, nitric and hydrochloric.
  • There is an internal sump capacity of at least 1 gallon.
  • Adjustable poly shelves.
  • Storage for smaller containers in the lockable doors.
  • Has 2 poly vents of 2” size with caps.
  • The complete line of Eagle cabinets can be viewed at www.spill911.com.

Justrite Dual Storage Cabinet

Some work environments or labs may have a few flammables or corrosives but do not want the expense of purchasing 2 separate cabinets. Now, there is an answer for the safe storage of both in one cabinet. The Justrite Dual Safety Cabinet offers a safe way to store both flammable and corrosive liquids, within the same cabinet.
  • Meets OSHA and NFPA requirements for storage of flammables.
  • Double wall steel construction.
  • Has an inner double wall partition with 1.5”insulating air space resistance.
  • Has 2 separate, independent 5 gallon storage compartments.
  • This affords safe storage of both flammables and corrosives.
  • There is a leak tight 2” deep sump in each compartment to catch spills.
  • The side for corrosives includes a removable polyethylene sump liner.
  • Each compartment door is independently lockable.
  • Each compartment door has a Sure-Grip door handle for easy access.
  • Self-closing style doors with hidden mechanism for optimum shelf storage space.
  • Doors have fusible link which melts at 165° F to close shut under fire conditions.
  • There is built-in grounding connector to prevent static buildup.
  • Large warning labels of ‘Yellow For Flammables’ and ‘Blue For Corrosives’ identify the contents.
  • This cabinet is protected inside and out with a white epoxy powder coat finish.
  • It is sized to sit on top a 30 or 45 gallon cabinet.
  •  Has a 10 Year Warranty.
